An e-mail announcement from the Tommy Conwell Store:

Hey! I'm playing next Saturday night, July 12th, in Avalon, New Jersey at Jack's Place with SideArm, which is my buddy Bobby Pirylis' band. Bobby is also a member of the legendary Octane, which is all you need to know... The band is KILLER!

Also, as if that's not enough, THE Philly party icon Johnny O is playing with us! Special thanks to my old pal, Al Geary, for putting this show together. I can't wait! See you there, you dirty dogs!

Going Back to Philly!

Tommy Conwell and the Young Rumblers performing “Going Back to Philly” in Wildwood, NJ. Early 90’s…

Going Back To Philly
Written by: Tommy Conwell

Well, rubber on the highway, smoke in the air
We went rolling out of Philly heading anywhere
Played our first gig in a one-room shack
Raised a whole lot of hell, said we’re coming back
played Austin, Detroit, New Orleans, San Francisco, Baltimore
and points in between
But there’s one place feels like heaven above
better known as the city of brotherly love

I’m goin’ back to Philly - lawd, it’s been a long long time
Goin’ back to Philly
Driver, move me down the line
Goin’ back to Philly to see that little woman of mine

Well, Silver Eagle leveled off at 65
eatin’ Waffle House cookin’ just to stay alive
then bus it down to Massachusetts down to Alabam-
Oklahoma City down to Texarkan-
Up and down and round and round she go
where the bus gonna stop
Ain’t nobody knows
I been a lot of places and they all look fine
But it ain’t nothin’ like that hometown city of mine

Goin’ back to Philly - lawd, it’s been a long long time
Goin’ back to Philly, driver, move me down the line
Goin’ back to Philly to see that little woman of mine

We played little black clubs where no one goes
hockey rinks and late night tv shows
flew a big jet plane all the way to Japan
took a European bus across the promise land
played London, Stockholm, Amsterdam,
Tokyo, Osaka and Yokoham-

But when they brought that thing back to the USA
We ‘bout to get it on and here’s what I say

Goin’ back to Philly, lawd, it’s been a long long time
Goin’ back to Philly, driver, move me down the line
Goin’ back to Philly to see that little woman of mine

Tommy Conwell - Acoustic 3/3/2013

A highlight of Tommy Conwell's acoustic performance at Coffee Works includes a rare song - "May We All Be Here Until the End."
This song was one of several played as a preview of new rock material featured on a WMMR live showcase in the early '90s. The band was promoting Neuroticus Maximus, an album later rejected by MCA.
Tommy has re-worked this song with new lyrics. If you have heard the original demo for this song, you know it's an instant classic.
